The Tribal Council of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has voted against locating a casino in Leake County.
The Neshoba Democrat reported the council voted 10-6 against the project backed by Tribal Chief Phyliss J. Anderson.
Anderson proposed spending $18.8 million on the casino in the Red Water community. She has said the casino would provide 120 jobs.
In December, the Tribal Council passed a resolution to borrow up to $145 million to renovate the Silver Star Hotel and Casino and reactivate the Golden Moon Casino, both in Neshoba County.
Part of that money was proposed for the Red Water casino, which required a majority vote of the council.
Anderson said in a statement that she was disappointed with the council vote.
