Unofficial Returns in Choctaw Races for Chief, Council

With 9 out of 9 voting stations reporting, Phyliss Anderson leads in the unofficial tally for chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

With all but 241 absentee votes counted, it appears as though Anderson has won the election for tribal chief.
Anderson 2011 votes
Denson 1523 votes

The number of absentee ballots would not be enough for Denson to overcome Anderson's lead. Shirley Berg placed a distant third with 63 votes.

Absentee ballots will be counted Wednesday, starting at 1 p.m., before the results can be certified. The totals are unofficial until that time.

In the Conehatta Tribal Council race, Jesse Thomas leads with 180 votes, followed by Randy Anderson with 174 votes. Incumbent Conehatta Councilman Troy Chickaway is third with 99 votes. There are 20 absentee ballots for Conehatta Tribal Council Representative to be counted.

In the Pearl River Tribal Council race, incumbent Cyrus Ben leads with 699 votes, followed by Barry McMillan with 269 votes. There are 117 absentee ballots for Pearl River Tribal Council Representative to be counted.

Halito, everyone....I commmend Mrs. Anderson for winning the title of being our new chief. Although, it may seem the rightful thing for some ppl to rub this win in Beasley and his families face, but the respectful thing is not to. I don't know why we can't see this as 'just another election', usually, somebody is bound to get replaced sooner or later. It's done, lets celebrate and get on with our lives. Also, As for the non-indians that post themselves as "nahollo" on this wall, f.y.i. you may think that it means a "white person" it actually means a "stingy, selfish white person" .....just thought I let you know, if you don't believe me, ask any full-blooded choctaw person....

Native Style, whi;e i agre with some of your comments, some of your other comments are divisive. Phylis' campaign was all about unity and for you to put down whites and half choctaws is not what her campaign was about. fOR THIS TRIBE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IT TAKES EVERYONE WORKING TOGETHER FOR A COMMON GOAL. and that doesn't include shunning anyone because of the color of their skin.

Whose putting who down??? "nahollo or naholo" has been the nickname for any white person given by our elderly, ancestor. . . Why you ask? Because I'm sure the whites had called them names back in the day too, So, I guess that term is used and comes naturally to us these days, maybe if your grandparents or great-great treated mine with respect then, we or at least I would be much nicer to you people. I guess times change but ppl don't. Like said congrats to Mrs. Anderson, now that elections over, lets move on.

She should do well now that she has God on her side. She did become a christian, did she not? It was about the same time her campaign started. See you in church regularly.
