The Meridian City Council has authorized placement of additional street lights in various locations around town.
The council Tuesday gave the go-ahead for new street lights to be placed at thirteen spots at Briarwood Estates, as well as eight other locations.
Public works director, Monty Jackson, said the lights should be installed soon.
"People will ask us to look into it and see where some are needed close to their homes. And we go out and investigate and determine whether it's justifiable or not to put one there," Jackson said. "There are some areas that are dark, some areas that are lit up real well. So we have to look at each site on an individual basis."
Jackson said the money for the street lights comes from the regular general fund budget.
