There has been some confusion over one particular race in Lauderdale County, because of recent annexation in the city of Meridian.
The annexation did not affect school districts.
Circuit Clerk Donna Jill Johnson says newly annexed residents should be prepared to vote for the candidate of their choice in that race.
"That's the part of the annexation that is grandfathered," said Johnson. "Those kids go to county schools and their parents want a voice in the superintendent's race every four years. "
In that race, the incumbent, Randy Hodges, is being challenged by local principal, Billy Burnham. Both are Republicans. The primary is Aug. 2.
