This week, a West Alabama group will continue its efforts to change the way local government operates there.
The concerned citizens group in Choctaw County will gather this Tuesday morning to propose allowing voters to decide whether the county should change from its current district system to a unit system. Supporters of the change say that it would save the county money and help local government operate more efficiently.
"We will not stop until this is done," Vernon Underwood says. "Until we have an opportunity to either vote for a county unit system or a county unit system is voted on by that commission to go to a county unit system. It won't stop."
The Choctaw County commissioners meeting is set for Tuesday morning at 9:00. Supporters say it would save the county more than a half million dollars.
