Mississippi Democrat, Cong. Bennie Thompson, is taking some heat over some comments he made this week that some call racist.
In a webcast interview with the New Nation of Islam earlier this week, Thompson called U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an 'Uncle Tom' and said he believes some of the opposition to President Obama and his policies from lawmakers is because of the color of the president's skin.
Thompson defended his comments to CNN.
"I've been here a long time, and I've seen a lot of issues come before Congress," said Thompson. "I've never seen the venom put forth on another candidate or president like I've seen with this president."
So far, there have been no comments from any other members of Mississippi's congressional delegation, or anyone else in Congress.
