The Meridian City Council overrode Mayor Percy Bland's veto of an ordinance that reinstated the citizens' comments segment of council meetings. The council had put some rules in place that Bland opposed.
Bland contends the resolution should have been written by the city attorney.
The citizens' comments had been stopped by the previous council. The current council voted to reinstate them, but with rules.
Those wishing to speak before the council must be placed on the meeting agenda. The request must be made at least a week prior to the meetings. Topics must also be specific and no more than one person may speak on that topic. The total time allowed for comments is 15 minutes, with each person limited to three minutes.
