County Democratic Convention Held

Despite the spotlight being placed on Republicans, area Democrats gathered in Meridian on Saturday morning for the County Democratic Convention.

Democratic officials and party leaders gathered at the party's downtown headquarters to elect delegates for the third congressional district, as well as the state convention.

Despite there being few Democrats on Tuesday's ballot, Democratic party chairman Ted Reynolds says it is just important for voters to get out and vote on Tuesday.

"We are doing as we always do," Reynolds says. "Try to increase voter turnout. We are going into the different housing communities and the different neighborhoods, encouraging people to get out and vote. Exercise that right because it does make a difference."

Reynolds says delegates from the county convention will move on to the third congressional convention in Philadelphia, while the state convention will be held in Jackson.

That was part of the joke..... Duh. The headquarters is an office about 16ft by 16ft. You cant hold a conference in that! A political conference brings up the thought of lots of people meeting, not 15 in a tiny room downtown. The article should have been a few democratics meet at head quarters.
