Scooba residents will soon have a new incentive to get some exercise.
A grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission is funding the construction of a walking trail.
The Scooba Focus Group met Thursday to discuss the project.
Clearing has already started on some city-owned land , and the trail will extend through the East Mississippi Community College campus.
Group member Mose Fleming says it will be a beautiful trail for both young and old.
"We know that diabetes is a problem here and that's certainly an issue that we're trying to address," said Fleming. "And if we can get the whole family walking we think that's a healthy atmosphere. We're just trying to pull our community together and have a healthy community. "
The grant is for $3,000. The walking trail should be ready in six months.
