Groups Try to Hurt Alabama Tourism

A national coalition of civil rights and labor organizations say they will run advertisements around the country encouraging people not to visit tourist sites in Alabama because of the state's crackdown on illegal immigration.

Leaders of the group said in a telephone news conference Thursday that they also plan to have demonstrations in front of 73 Hyundai dealerships around the county to encourage the South Korean
auto manufacturer to publicly take a stance against Alabama's immigration law.

State tourism director Lee Sentell says tourists spent $10.2 billion in Alabama last year. He says it was the first year tourists had spent more than $10 billion in Alabama.

Sentell said immigrants would be hurt by such an action because of the number of immigrants who have jobs in the tourism industry.

@ southerngentleman. That was a sad and semi-moving statement. The truth is illegal..... Period. You never said illegal anywhere in your statement. They commited crimes to come here, get free schools, have not have the proper vacinations, (which is why we see several diseases coming bad in America that were considered controled) and send their money bad to mexico. If you actually believe that people want to force people to work in fields then you are mentally challenged. I am also for getting rid of long term welfare and drug testing while on the service. No where in the US constitution did it say pursuit of free life.

@just saying person. I understand exactly what youre saying. After running off the farm workers, you speak of the 'welfare recipients' being made to work the fields. While youre 'just saying,' why dont you 'just say' EXACTLY what youre getting at? Youre talking about the black folks, arent you? Thats the end game that the repubs have planned, isnt it? Take away the womens rights, one law at a time, take away the immigrants rights, one vote at a time, and before you know it, its 1850s all over for the white guys and their cotton fields. By the way 'just saying,' where are your folks from. My ancestors were native americans, were yours immigrants? Others should do as you say, not as you do. Right?

Bravo JW and Bearhunter. "Keep all the liberals and idiots up north, where they belong" huh? I seem to remember the same being called our by local area people during the days leading up to the civil war (yeah, I read alot) and the civil right era a hundred years later. Great that the good old boy networks still around. Whats planned next after the farms dry up because theres no one willing to work them? Maybe round up a certain group and really go back to the good ole days??? Isnt that what its really about, dear hunter?

Whats planned after the crops in the fiekds dry up and rot you say?????? How about the "career welfare" people being made to work in the fields to earn their welfare instead of sitting at home under the air condition, with subsidised housing and utility bills, and eating off of food stamps, waiting on the postman to bring them their check?

The coalition of civil rights and labor org. should focus on encouraging ILLEGAL immigrants to become LEGAL and jobs should only be given to LEGAL residents of any state. By encouraging people NOT to travel to Alabama aren't they endagering the employment of the ILLEGAL immigrants they so desperately seek to protect?

Maybe Alabama doesn't want anyone in their state that doesn't like the way they do things. This could be the beginning of a great thing. All southern states adopt a similar law and we can keep all the stupid liberals and undesirable idiots up north or California.
