Gary Houston has received the endorsement of the Mississippi Alliance of State Employees. The announcement was made Thursday in Meridian.
Houston is the Democratic nominee and will be on the ballot Nov. 8.
MASE president Brenda Scott said Houston is a man of integrity and understands the role of state workers, and will champion their cause.
"He's interested in a lot of their concerns. For instance, the retirement fund. He's aware that the workers are paying more toward their health insurance," said Scott. "He's also aware that year after year after year, that there has been an attempt to make these workers at-will without any due process rights to their job, regardless of the years of services that they have given to the state of Mississippi."
"We believe in working hard to support our government workers, our public employees," said Houston. "They invested their lives in giving service to our community, in health care, in mental health, in every facet of our community, which makes up the community of Lauderdale and Clarke County."
Houston is running against incumbent Republican state Rep. Greg Snowden and independent Sam Thompson.
