Leaders Cautious about Recovery

Money was a topic for Monday's Lauderdale County Council of Governments meeting.

State Rep. Greg Snowden shared Mississippi's revenue report, as of the end of May.

He says it shows the state's revenue gradually rising.

Snowden said officials anticipate revenues to be up about five percent over the previous year.

"There was a report last week that Mississippi is one of six states that actually slipped back into a recession in 2011, which means there was no growth in other words," Snowden said. "However, our revenues are picking up and it does look like we are improving and gradually recovering. And that's the good news."

Snowden said the improving numbers do not mean there won't be cuts necessary in the budget for the next fiscal year.
