Republican businessman Van Lewis qualified Friday to run for the office of Lauderdale County tax assessor.
Lewis said his business has brought him in contact with the tax assessor's office, and he can bring a fresh outlook.
"I'm running to give an opportunity to assist Lauderdale County in moving forward," Lewis said. "I look forward to the opportunity to work with other elected officials, to the common good of the county and the taxpayers and voters of Lauderdale County. "
In addition to Lewis, incumbent Republican Jimmy Slay has qualified for the seat, in addition to Republican James Rainey.
