The Mississippi Department of Transportation plans to begin a chip seal operation Tuesday that will affect five counties in total, including Kemper and Noxubee.
A thin film of heated asphalt liquid is sprayed on the road surface, followed by the placement of small aggregates, or chips. The chips are then compacted to orient the chips for maximum adherence to the asphalt, and excess stone is swept from the surface. The process is intended to extend pavement life and provide a good driving surface.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to pay close attention to all signs, workers and equipment, and to expect delays.
