The Mississippi National Guard continues its support of hurricane operations on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Members are involved in patrols, static check points, traffic control and evacuation of residents in flooded areas using Special Forces boat teams and high mobility vehicles.

"As Hurricane Isaac makes its way through the Gulf Coast and on into neighboring counties, we will support relief efforts there as well," said Maj.
Gen. Augustus Collins, the adjutant general of Mississippi. "This storm is not just a coastal event; it will affect thousands of citizens in counties up through central Mississippi."

Approximately 1,500 soldiers and airmen were activated Aug. 27 to assist local authorities in the protection of our citizens in the Gulf Coast-area during and following landfall of Hurricane Isaac.

Collins said 6,000 additional guard troops are available if needed.
