A judge has ordered a new election in the dispute over who won the June 4 contest for mayor of Hattiesburg.
WDAM reports that Judge William Coleman granted a motion by attorneys for independent candidate Dave Ware calling for a special election.
Coleman, appointed by the state Supreme Court to hear the dispute, said absentee ballots in the June 4 election must be thrown out. Ware had raised objections over how they were handled.
Ware faced incumbent Johnny DuPree in that election. DuPree is a Democrat.
A date for a special election will have to be set by Gov. Phil Bryant.
