New Election for Choctaw Chief

On Friday morning the current chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Miko Beasley Denson, broke a tie on a deadlocked tribal council vote which ordered a new Chief's election in a race he lost.

Denson was beaten by Phyllis Anderson in a runoff election Tuesday. It is not clear when the new election will be, which candidates it will involve, or if there will be any further appeals before it takes place.

The Choctaw election commission initially approved votes that were cast after 8 PM the night of the general election, but when the appeal came before the Council Friday morning, Denson broke an 8 to 8 deadlock, paving the way for another election.

What took Phillip Martin 30 years to build only took Miko Denson less than 4 to destroy. What are you doing people? Do not sell your vote...Phyllis is your only hope!

The leadership of the MBCI has been allowed to do what they want when they want. They follow their own rules!!! They need to enter the real world. Unfortunately, most of them could not survive!!

This is the most ridiculous thing "MIKO" Denson has even done. But, of course, he's a mobster, a mafia, among being the Devil's advocate. Let's see how many more shocking underhanded things he does before the next election. Just a sore loser!

becuz he did not receive 51% majority vote,,,that is n constitution. there were 9 candidates, and the amt he got was less tahn all of them combined meaning more people wanted him out, they were just split over who they wanted.

Majority is 50% 1 vote, not 51%, and if you see the actual totals almost just as many voters did not want Phyllis either, it was the combination of all candidates combined that made it 56%, not just Phyllis and now many are concerned as to why they voted for her, she does want to get elected by proper election methods, so who is to say she will follow the laws or rules once or if she gets elected.

Duh, Beasley didn't win, he didn't earn above the 51% REQUIRED. Read, learn, and be more educated in your election process before you mouth off.

the tribal election laws say, 50 plus 1 vote, not 51%, you get educated before you mouth off, people like you who doesn't want to know the real truth tend to get carried away in thinking they know whats in the laws. I want you to look it up in the tribal election laws for yourself and please don't go by hear say, and prove to me I am not correct. It is 50% plus one vote. Not 51%

regardless it i all the same, he didn't have enough to automatically win, not by a long shot, and others say it was 200 people in line at 8, amazing he got almost 200 votes less this time around.

I would rather see Jody run again. Phillis only got the votes she got because Jody tried to help her but her white hit squad go caught cheating......... Beasley will win anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

beasley is no leader, he is just a taker. he's not the leader that i want my kids to follow. all the controversy about him, even the way he showed up to chief martin's funeral, sad, and i don't want my kids thinking it is all about the casino, casinos are the root of evil and greed

How can the first election stand if it went by the same rules as this one was tossed out under? Only reason that makes sence is the crooked half of the Council didn't see a woman being able to win. Hope the ones not on The Kickback Trail can win again.

well this is a meridian tv station, duh... anyone has right to comment. even if not a tribal member, people see what's going on and it does affect everyone, how well how does tribal businesses get money,, mostly by outside interest, now non members cannot vote, but tribal troubles mean they will charge more for things at tribal businesses. beas really has alot of tribal members where they think they live on an island somewhere. i know you may say well if they don't like it they don't have to come, but do you go in other peoples business or do you just stay on the rez, never eat out or shop anyone else. okay. plus, this person might be a tribal member who happens to live in meridian, alot of tribal members have moved away, so get over it baby.
