More than fifty workers showed up at the Lauderdale County Courthouse Tuesday afternoon for the first training session.
Circuit Clerk Donna Jill Johnson says the workers were hired by the Democratic and Republican party people to handle the Aug. 2 primary and the potential Aug. 23 runoff.
"This is hands on training with handouts," said Johnson. "And what's so wonderful about it is that the Democratic and Republican party people contract our five election commissioners that are trained for elections and really rely on their wisdom and knowledge and expertise to assist."
Johnson says there are roughly 44,000 registered voters in Lauderdale County.
