The Meridian City Council is considering an idea to sell parking decals that would allow drivers to park anywhere downtown without worrying about getting a ticket.
The Meridian Star reports that the council recently asked Karen Rooney, executive director of Meridian Main Street, to conduct a survey to determine if such a plan would be feasible.
The idea would be to sell the decals to Meridian drivers for a set annual fee. The figure being considered is $120.
Council president, Dr. George Thomas, said he has mixed feelings about the proposal and wants to hear whether downtown merchants believe it would help or hurt their businesses.
