A student at Russell Christian Academy came up with a winning slogan that will be used to educate the public about flood plains and ways property owners can protect their investments.
The contest was sponsored by Lauderdale County's Program for Public Information Committee.
The winner was seventh grader Michael Watson, who came up with "Don't Be Hasty, Remember Flood Safety".
The initiative seeks to inform the public so they understand about potential flooding prior to buying property, selling or building.
"There are things you can do to prevent damage to your home. Flood insurance, you need to consider this," said Cathy Lummus, flood plain administrator. "So we wanted to involve the kids to come up with the slogan that we can use for our campaign for the year."
Watson received a $100 Wal-Mart gift card and a prize pack from contest sponsors for his winning entry.
