Reminder of Primary Runoffs

Updated: Mon 7:19 PM, Aug 08, 2011

Mississippi and county elections were topics at Monday's council of governments meeting in Meridian.

Circuit Clerk Donna Jill Johnson urged voters to participate in the second primary, or runoffs, Aug. 23.

Local offices and a statewide race will be on ballots in separate primaries.

Johnson reminds voters that they cannot cross over. If you voted Democrat Aug. 2, you may only vote Democrat in the runoff. The same is true for Republican primary voters.

"On the Democrat ticket, you have the governor's race, one thing," said Johnson. "And on the Republican side, you have the state treasurer's race. You have supervisor District 1, supervisor District 5, and the tax assessor's race."

Johnson says it's too late to register for the runoff, but those who are already registered may vote Aug. 23, even if they did not vote Aug. 2.
