With the holiday season in full swing residents are being reminded about the importance of shopping locally.
According to Meridian City Council president, Dr. George Thomas, city operations are dependent on sales tax revenue.
"Over half of the city's budget is sales tax reimbursement that we get when people buy things here in the city," said Thomas. "When people buy things online, or outside the city limits, we get no reimbursement on that sales tax."
Thomas says sales tax revenue accounts for 52% of the city of Meridian's budget.
