The sheriff in Jasper County, Miss., has resigned. After serving six months on the job, Keith Murphy announced his resignation Monday.
County officials said the resignation is due to personal reasons.
John Keenan has since been sworn in as the interim sheriff.
The 66-year-old Keenan is retired from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
A special election to fill the position for the remainder of the term will be held in November.
