Meridian, Miss. Meridian's Ward 5 city councilman, Randy Hammon, hosted a community meeting at Highland Baptist Church Thursday night. It was well attended.
Hammon was joined by Ward 2 councilman, Dustin Markham and Kim Houston, Ward 4 councilwoman, as well as representatives of the city and fire department.
People were asked to submit questions to be addressed during the meeting. Many of them were centered around crime. Hammon said he believes the new patrol system is working.
"Being an engineer I know a plan when I see one," said Hammon. "This plan with the quadrants is working, as I've said here tonight. I've already had to use it one time. Response time has gone from twenty minutes down to 7 to 8 minutes so it's a great thing for Meridian. A plan is always better than no plan."
Hammon also spent time discussing ways to clean up the inner city by demolishing abandoned houses.
