Ruby Gladys Herd, 95, of Columbus, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Columbus Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Mount Zion Church Cemetery in Union, MS with Reverend Jonathan Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Herd was born August 30, 1915 in Newton County, MS to the late Rubie Gladys Cleveland Terrell and George Walton Terrell. She won Mt. Zion School’s spelling bee in eighth grade and always loved word puzzles. She graduated from Stratton High School in 1933, the first of her family. She enjoyed board games and being a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, in addition to gardening and bird watching. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. As a faithful believer in Jesus Christ, she was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church.
Mrs. Herd is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Steve B. Herd, her son George L. (Roy) Herd, three brothers, Walton, Andrew V. and Earl Terrell and two sisters Zerthan Nicholson and Anne Rose Nicholson.
She is survived by: her twin daughters Ruby Lynn Hand (William) of Columbus, GA and Judy Rogers (Joseph) of Woodstock, GA, daughter in law Linda Herd of Germantown, TN, five grandchildren, Stephen Rogers (Jenny) of Cummings, GA, Stephanie Hassard (Jake) of Columbus, GA, Christian Rogers of Woodstock, GA, Catherine Hand of Dothan, AL and Rachel Herd of Germantown, TN and three great grand children, Andrew and twins, Matthew and Bryson Rogers.
