JOHNNIE LEE 'Man' STURDIVANT, age 77, of York, Alabama, born and raised in York, and a lifelong resident, the oldest son of Ross and Jessie Bell Sturdivant, passed May 4, 2009 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, Mississippi, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 1:00 P. M. from Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, York, Alabama, with Rev. James E. Granger, pastor, delivering the eulogy. Interment follows in the adjacent Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Mr. Sturdivant will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday evening (May 8th) from 3-6:00 P. M. at the WEATHERLY FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL at York. At 12:40 P.M. Saturday afternoon, the funeral cortege will leave from the Sturdivant residence, located 1930 Millville Road-Highway 19. After the funeral the family will share repast with friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

In his early years, "Man" joined and devoted his love, life, and total energy to his church-Mt. Hermon Baptist church, where he served as head Deacon until his death. He retired after working over 44 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad Companies. An avid planter and gardener, he pursued his passion of growing, gardening, and watching his world famous tomatoes and field greens flourish.

Those left to cherish precious memories of "Man' are: his wife of 59 years, Catherine McCoy Sturdivant; his fourteen (14) children; sons- James, Leopole, Gary, Tony, and Dennis A. (Acacia); his daughters- Vontean, Shiron, Kathey, Carol, Melinda (Tim) Bowers, Jacqueline (Bobby) Donald, Tonell (James) Donald, Denise, and Cynthia; brothers- Joe (Ollie Mae), Danny (Penny), T.C. (Katie), Floyd (Gladys), William (Debbie); sisters- Melba Thomas, and Rosie Ruffin; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
