Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Charles Cooper will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at First Methodist Protestant Church in Newton with the Reverend Wayne Sellers and the Reverend Tommy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Lawrence Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cooper, 77, of Kosciusko, formerly of Newton, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the Mississippi State Veteran’s Home. He was born June 04, 1932 in Olney, Texas to the late Walter E. and Virginia McCasson Cooper. He was a member of the First Methodist Protestant Church in Newton and was retired from Entex, Inc. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society.
Survivors include: his devoted caregiver: Linda Cooper Derrick of Pulaski; his sons: Dennis Russell “Rusty” Cooper of Oxford; Eugene Bert Cooper of Kaawa Hawaii; and Charles Tyrone (Bridgett) Cooper of Magee; his sister: Peggy Cooper Chapman of Newton; his grandchildren: Mark A. Cooper, Cristina Cooper Pulkrabek, Jerry M. Cooper, Mackenzie L. Cooper, and Danni Rayanna Cooper; two step grandchildren: Lyndon Giordano and Rhett Giordano.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter E. and Virginia McCasson Cooper; his brother: Joe R. Cooper; his sisters: Dorothy Cooper Drinkwine and Delores Cooper Milton.
Pallbearers will be Ronal Davis, Henry Carmichael, Johnny Gaines, Jerry “Buster” Bounds, Jr., Stanley Boutwell and Carlton Rush.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Charles Vance, Bill Hand, Joe Dear, and Vernon Gibbs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Methodist Protestant Church, P. O. Box 457, Newton, Mississippi 39345, or to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be held at Monday, June 22, 2009 from 5 p.m - 8 p.m. at the church and on Tuesday, two hours prior to the service at the church
