Mr. Billy Joe Callahan, age 81, of Newton, MS passed away on Saturday 09/26/2009 while with his family at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. A Funeral service celebrating his life will be at 2:00pm on Wednesday, 09/30/2009, at the Newton County Funeral Home Chapel on Highway 15 North. The Body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Internment will follow at the Lawrence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Callahan was born in Wichita Falls, TX on April 22, 1928 and lived most of his life in Jackson, MS before relocating to Newton, MS in 1997. He was a Retired Supervisor at United Gas Pipeline with over 30 years of service.
Survivors include: his wife of over 42 years, Peggy Ruth Crosby Callahan; 2 sons: Steven Joe Callahan and wife Gwen of Friendswood, TX and Robert Burney Callahan and wife Katy of Houston, TX; 2 daughters: Terry Lynn King and husband Wayne of Richland, MS and Christy Michele Payne and husband Jeffrey of Richland, MS; 11 grandchildren; Kelly O’Neal Callahan, Neal Davidson Callahan, Stefanie Angelle Callahan, Allison Renee Callahan, Corey Michael Hanson, Cameron Joe Hanson, Nicholas Jordan Callahan Payne, Carrington Elizabeth Payne, Lawson Malone Payne, Grayson Crosby Payne and Anna Riley Payne; 3 great-grandchildren: Michael Tyler Hanson, Chloe Kathleen Callahan, and Ella Grace Thibodeaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Billy Burnie Callahan and Ruby Laura Callahan of Mobile, Alabama and a brother Jack Donald Callahan.
