Services for Nellie Merle Gibbs (Buggs) Ryder will be held Tuesday at 10:00a.m. at Webb Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with burial to follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Malcolm Lewis of Collinsville and Reverend Steve Robinson of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Newton.
Mrs. Ryder, 87 died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Leake County Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Mrs. Ryder was born in Newton County on October 1, 1922 and lived there most of her life. At the time of death she resided at Choctaw Residential Center in Choctaw, MS.
She loved gospel music and in her younger years sang in a gospel trio known as "The Newton County Harmonettes" which performed at many local all-day singings. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Newton, Mississippi. Her favorite pastimes were reading, playing the piano, and caring for her pet chihuahua.
Survivors include her son Benny Buggs and wife Connie of Newton; daughter Rhonda Stodard and husband Darrell of Tallahassee Florida; granddaughter Valeria Buggs Prince and husband Phillip of Philadelphia; sister Ruby Breland of Union; two great-grandchildren Miriam and Samuel Prince of Philadelphia; five nephews and two nieces. Preceded in death by her parents , William L. Gibbs and Emma Mann Gibbs of Newton; husband L.C. Buggs of Newton; second husband Charles Ryder of Decatur; Infant son Charles Buggs; Brothers Frank Gibbs and Albert Gibbs, both of Newton; Sisters Lawis Lewis of Newton, and Ludie Mae Lewis of Pontiac , Michigan.
Pallbearers will be Billy Horton, David Everett, Don Wilhelm, William Mayes, Chris Craven, and Rayford Bounds Jr.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. at the Webb Funeral Home in Newton.
