Funeral Services for Ms. Bessie Green Simpson of York will be held on Sunday, December 6th at 2:30 P.M. from the Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Campbell and Rev. Ed Tatum officiating. Burial will follow in the Siloam Cemetery. Visitation for Ms. Simpson will be from 1:30 until 2:30 prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Gideon’s International, the Siloam Cemetery Association, or the charity of your choice.
Ms. Simpson, age 85, went to be with the Lord, Friday December 4th at Rush Hospital in Meridian. She was preceded in death by her parents Preston and Leila Maude Green and husband Louis Grady “Red” Simpson. Her memory will forever by cherished by her sisters Earline (D.W.) Ross of Jasper, TN; and Clara Jean (Ed) Stallings of Cuba, AL; brother Edsil (Sandra) Logan of St. Mary’s, GA; niece Sandi (Dennis) Thornton of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews David Ross of Rome, GA; Eddy Logan (Lori) of St. Mary’s, GA; John E. (Rhonda) Stallings of Louisville, Ohio; Robert Scott (Lynnette) Stallings of Greenwood, Indiana, Allan (Rebecca) Stallings of Homewood, AL; Mark (Janet) Stallings of Cuba, Alabama; great nieces and nephews Matthew (Alisa) Stallings, Steven Stallings, Jonna Noel, John E. IV Stallings, Sarah Stallings, Garrett Stallings, Rachel Stallings, Kenneth (Legare) Tucker and Staci Thornton. Great-Great niece Kate Tucker; special caregiver Velma Walker and a host of friends.
She was a graduate of Sumter County High School. For many years, she was an employee of Cobb Variety Store. Bessie was a faithful member of the Siloam Baptist Church except for sixteen years when she and her husband lived in Chickasaw, Alabama, where they were both active in the First Baptist Church there. Her last seven years were spent in the Sumter Health and Rehab Assisted Living in York where she had many good friends and cherished staff members. Bessie’s hobbies included crocheting, embroidering, ceramics and yard work. She was a member of the York Sewing Circle.
