Funeral services for Larry I. Willis will be held Friday, January 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Newton County Funeral Home Chapel, South Location, 100 Old Hwy. 15 Loop, with Dr. Frank Harmon and Rev. Greg Willis officiating. Burial will be in Newton County Memorial Gardens. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Willis, 62, of Meridian, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 11, 1947, and was a native of Newton County. He was a graduate of Newton High School, and Commonwealth College of Sciences. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. He was a member of the Newton Rotary Club, having served as President during the 2005-2006 term. He was a member of the Newton Depot Coffee Club, and a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #57 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1628, Meridian Chapter. He was a former member of the Newton and Meridian Lions Clubs, and the Newton Chamber of Commerce. He worked for James F. Webb Funeral Home for 37 years, having served as manager of the Newton location for 18 years. He also worked for Newton County Funeral Home, where he served as manager for four years.
Survivors include: the mother of his children: Bonnie Willis; his son: Gregory Ray (Clair) Willis; his daughter: Kari Lynn (Kelly) Mood; his brother: Hansel (Sara) Willis; his sisters: Charles (Elizabeth) Maske, Shirley (Ken) Hurt, and Linda (Fred) Dennis several nieces and nephews; great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death his parents: James Rankin and Emmie Lee Williams Willis; his sister: Mary Joyce Willis, and his brothers: Clinton Willis, John Willis, and Donny Willis.
Pallbearers will be David Williams, Steve Maske, Bo Maske, Cody Maske, Mark Willis, and Devon Williams.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Austin Usry, Rodney Sims, Ann Turman, Delora Davis, Ronnie Knotts, William Savell, Thomas Laird, Harold Laird, and members of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1628, Meridian Chapter.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 07, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
