Graveside Services for Mr. Boyd Blair Meixell, Jr. , age 90 of Butler, will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 4:00pm from Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Butler with Rev. Dr. Dan Nixon officiating and Eulogy by Jake Utsey. Visitation for Mr. Boyd Blair Meixell, Jr. will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 12:30pm until 2:00pm at Bumper Funeral Home in Butler.
Mr. Meixell, A World War II Veteran and retired Pulp Mill Supervisor for American Can, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at his residence.
Boyd Blair Meixel, Jr. was born on October 8, 1919 in the Panama Canal Zone to Boyd Blair Meixell, Sr. and Loulu Boyd Meixell. He was a graduate of Brevard College in Brevard, NC. During WWII he served as 1st Lieutenant in the AIr Force. He was a graduate of the Advanced Fighter School in Selma, Alabama. For a short time he was a test pilot for export planes destined for North Africa before the invasion. He later spent 2 years in the New Guinea-Solomon island Area as a pilot of a B24, flying 52 combat missions. He was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of an additional air metal. Boyd was employed by American Can Paper in 1958 as a Pulp Mill Supervisor. He retired with American Can In December of 1979.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Talley Meixell and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Blair Meixell, Sr. Boyd leaves behind 3 daughters Jo Ann Powers of Monroe, GA; Linda "Bunny" Meixell of Butler; and Brenda "Binky" Rolison (Jackie) of Ripley, Mississippi; one son William Blair Mexiell (Bob Jakosh) of Laguna Beach, CA; 4 grandchildren Scott Powers of Elberta, Alabama; Tripp Powers (Sheila) Monore, GA; Ashley Roten (Perrin ) of Great Falls, MT; Jack Rolison, III (Suzanne) of Thrasher, Mississippi; 6 great grandchildren; Candence Rolison, Molly-Kate Talley Rolison, Griffin Meixell Rolisonof Thrasher, Mississippi, Trey Roten, John Davis Roten , and Samuel Roten of Great Falls, MT.
