Military graveside services for Mr. Leroy Brown of Mobile, AL, a former resident of Yourk, AL, will be held Friday, January 22, 2010, at 11am from the York City Cemetery Mausoleum with Rev. David Wilkinson officiating.
Mr. Brown was born June 27, 1921 in Sumter County, AL and passed away January 19, 2010 in a Mobile Hospital. Mr. Brown had been battling multiple myeloma cancer for over 6 years.
Mr. Brown has been a resident of Mobile, AL since 1977. He was a retired railroad conductor for Burlington-Northern Railroad. He was a World War II veteran serving with the US Army in France and Germany.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Manley Brown, less than a year ago on February 21, 2009. Mr. Brown was also preceded in death by his parents Lonnie D. and Lilllie Wilkerson Brown and by two sisters, Evie Brown Dawkins of Mobile, a grandson, Gregory B. Dawkins of Mobile, a sister, Mavis Brown Campbell of Demopolis, AL, two nieces Barbara Lynn James Shoemaker and husband, Billy of Edna, AL and Susan James Carpenter and husband, Sandy of Pennington, AL.
Other Relatives include Robert Earl "Pete" Manley and wife, Mary Edna of Butler, AL, Norma Manley McCrory and husband Eddie of Selma, AL and Lera Manley of Madison, MS.
Pallbearers---Ronnie Beard, York--Eddie McCrory, Selma--Jim McCrory, Selma--Billy Shoemaker, Edna--Eugene Watts, Fairhope--and Williams White, Birmingham.
Honorary PB's--Mr. Brown's former co-workers with AT&N, Frisco, and Burlington Northern Railroad.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
Bumpers Funeral Home of York, Alabama will be in charge of arrangements.
