Frances Elizabeth Smith, 101, of Decatur, MS, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Hiltop Manor Nusing Home in Union, MS.
Funeral or services will be held at 11:00am, on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Clarke Venable Baptist Church in Decatur, MS with Dr. Richard Ethridge and Rev. Mark Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, MS. Newton County Funeral Home North, Hwy 15 North, Newton, MS is in charge of arrangements 601-635-3200.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Clarke Venable Baptist Church in Decatur, MS,having joined at an early age. She served for many years as an assistant in the Church nursery. She was an active lady throughout her 101 years, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, assisting her husband in the dairy business and was office manager of the Newton County Farm Bureau for many years. She was a member of the first graduating class of East Central Junior College, completing three years because her father wanted to make sure she had completed all credits. She was the last surviving member of this class.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Thomas Monroe Harris and Nellie Rowzee Harris, Husband J.B. Smith; three brothers, James C. Harris, William (Bill) Harris, and Charles M. Harris, two sisters, Dorothy H. Wooley and Rebecca H. Smith.
Survivors Include: two sisters, Evelyn H. Stafford, Mildred H. Gibbons and one brother, Jesse M. Harris. and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Chris Harris, Phillip Stafford,Avery S.Smith,Doyle McMullan, Kenneth Chaney,and Brian Frink.
