Paul Lavern Harper

Services for Mr. Paul L.Harper will be held 11 am, Monday, January 25, 2010 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Meridian with Rev. Haskel McMullen and Rev. Jerry McMullan officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery. Milling Funeral Home of Union in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harper, 85, of Meridian, died , Friday, January 22, 2010 at his residence in Meridian.

Mr. Harper was an Army veteran of WWII serving as a heavy machine gunner in the South Pacific. He was a recipient of the APTO Medal; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars; the Good Conduct Medal; and the WWII Victory Medal.He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The highlight of his week was going to Sciples Mill in Dekalb to have a good time with others.

Survivors include: Three daughters, Janice McCollum and husband Murvis of Meridian, Carolyn Hawkins and late husband Fred Hawkins of Tell City, Indiana, and Rachel Curbow and husband Rusty of Tupelo, Ms., two sons, Paul Bethea Harper and wife Reba of Hanceville, Alabama, and Gary Harper and wife Sandra of Meridian, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 8 step children, one sister, Catherine Creel and husband Jerry of Meridian, two brothers, Raymond Harper and wife Doris of Meridian, Bob Harper and wife Billie Jean of Meridian. He was survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Cookie Woodall of Meridian. He was preceded in death by two wives, Ruth Harper and Hazel Harper, one son, Kenneth Dale Harper.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Stephen Harper, Dewayne McCollum, Jason Hawkins, Riley Curbow, Robby Curbow, and Alex Smith.

A private family visitation will be held from 2-3 pm Sunday afternoon at Milling Funeral Home.

Public Visitation will be held from 10 am- 11am, Monday, January 25, 2010 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
