NEWTON – Funeral services for Jack Crosby will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hazel Baptist Church in Lake with Bro. Dale Henderson and Bro. Randall Creel officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Cemetery in Lake with Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, MS in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Crosby, 78, of Lake, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Rush Hospital in Meridian. He worked at the Newton Company for 44 years and he loved gardening and the outdoors. He loved his God, his church and spending time with his wife, family and friends. He served as a deacon at Hazel Baptist Church for 40 years and was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Velma Valelis Nelson Crosby of Lake; two daughters, Sandra Carol Johnson (Ted) of Lake and Patricia Ann Gaines (Jimmy) of Decatur; six grandchildren, Tonya (Ricky)Alford of Lake, Brian (Shannon)Johnson of Monticello, Jennifer (Jeff) Burch of Okinawa, Japan, Jason (Detra) Gaines of Decatur, Lindsay Hammons of Decatur and Casey (Missy) Johnson of Hickory; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Geraldine) Crosby of Jackson; two sisters, Louise Harris and Geneva Lyles, both of Lawrence; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bonnie Bell Pace Crosby; brother, Bobby Joe Crosby; and sister, Peggy Crosby Callahan.
Pallbearers are Brian Johnson, Jason Gaines, Casey Johnson, Ricky Alford, Mark Crosby and Lane Crosby. Honorary pallbearers are Milton Jordan, Chris Alford, Jesse Alford, Michael Alford, Hazel Baptist Church Deacons and Men's Sunday School Class. Visitation will be Saturday,January 23, 2010 from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Newton County Funeral Home South (formerly known as James F. Webb) Funeral Home in Newton and Sunday, 30 minutes prior to services at the church.
