Funeral Services for Mr. John Earl Taylor, age 85, of Silas will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11 A.M. from the Black Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 17th from 6 to 8 P.M. at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler.
John Earl Taylor, born February 14, 1925 in Silas, Alabama, passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on February 15, 2010. He was a World War II Veteran serving four years aboard USS Lang DD399 in the South Pacific Combat Theater, during which time the Lang earned 11 battle scars.
John retired from General Mills in Mobile, Alabama in 1980 and returned to his hometown of Silas where he and Margaret made their home. He touched the lives of so many and cherished those who called him Papa John. He always treasured the important things in life – Family, Friends, and God. He faithfully served the Lord throughout his life and was a Deacon of Black Creek Baptist Church for 29 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest H. Taylor, Sr. and Maggie Pruitt Taylor; brother Forest H. Taylor, Jr. and sister Mary Catherine Stewart.
John Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Margaret Taylor; brother Mickey (Shirley) Taylor of Summerdale, Alabama; stepsons Kenneth (Adrienne) Jackson of Hoover, Alabama and Wayne (Carol) Jackson of Eight Mile, Alabama; grandsons Michael (Meredith) Jackson and Brian (Leigh) Jackson; granddaughter Emily (Justin) Isaminger; and nephews Terry (Susan) Taylor of Biloxi, Mississippi; John Keith Taylor of Fort Smith, AR; and Richard (Theresa) Taylor of Murphys, CA; and numerous grand-nephews and nieces.
Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler will be in charge of arrangements.
