Mr. Asa Putnam, age 81, passed away at his residence(3322 Robert-Butler Rd) in Forest, Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. Services will be at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Wednesday, April 7th at 11 a.m. Rev. George Gardner and Ed Easley will be officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-8 at Milling Funeral Home of Sebastopol.
Mr. Putnam is survived by: His loving wife of 57 years Robbie Putnam of Forest. 1 Dtr.: Ilydia Martin Hall & husband Randy of Forest 1 Son: Jeffery Lee Putnam & wife Bonnie of Enterprise, Al 4 Grandchildren: Matthew Lee Putnam of Decatur; Angela Renae Putnam of Enterprise, Al; John Austin Martin of Forest and Joshua Lavelle Hall of Morton.
Preceded in death by his parents: Milton & Inez Putnam and stepmother: Viola Hannah Putnam; one sister: Gladys Putnam Oaks; special son-in-law: John McDonald Martin. Pallbearers will be: Matthew Putnam, John Austin Martin, Joshua Hall, Timothy Fortune, Steven Fortune, and John Solomon. Honorary pallbearers will be W. B. Madden, Phil Fortune, and Phillip Garcia.
Mr. Putnam was a life long resident of Scott county. He was born in the house his Grandfather built. He lost his mother as a child, and was raised by her father. He attended Harperville school until he volunteered for the U. S. Army. While serving his Country he traveled to many foreign countries before retiring after 23 years. Following his retirement in the US Army he returned to Scott County MS and farmed soybeans, livestock, and built chicken houses. He was a very active member of Antioch Primitive Baptist Church, American Legion, Sons of the Confederate, and VFW. He also served on the board of the SRG Water Association, the Steele Antioch Cemetery, the Sebastopol Stockyard, and the Old Line Fox Hunter’s Association.
Mr. Asa Putnam will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
