Bessie Spence Smith (Bet), 86, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday night, November 28, 2012. Complications after two massive strokes led to her death. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Bet was born February 19, 1928. She graduated from Beulah Hubbard High School in 1946.
She loved working with children. She volunteered in the nursery for many years at Clarke-Venable Baptist Church in Decatur, Ms and she taught pre-school children in her home for almost 20 years.
Bet loved being a wife and mother and she brought great joy to our home. One of our favorite family memories was sitting around the table after a good meal, watching Mom “laugh until she cried.”
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, N.F. Smith. She is also survived by her four daughters, Sandy Womble and husband Ken, Debbie Gibbs and husband Randy, Paula Buisson and husband Mike and Becky Scoggin. Seven grandchildren, Justin Buisson and wife Ashley, Valerie McDonald and husband
Michael, Rachel Scoggin, Matt Scoggin, Elise Bullock and husband Nick, Spencer Buisson, Ellen Gibbs and many nieces and nephews.
The Smith family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the Lakeland Rehab and Nursing Home for their unfailing love and support during Bet’s long illness.
