Cecil Edward Byard
Funeral services for Cecil Edward Byard will be 11 A.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Rich and Rev. Marty Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Newton County Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 A.M. - 10:45 A.M. on Saturday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Mr. Byard, 98 of Newton, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at his home. He was born Memphis, TN. He moved to Mantee around 1935 and married Bettye Turman and was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific aboard the US Bonhomme Richard Aircraft Carrier. After World War II, he moved back to Memphis, and began working with the railroad. He retired in 1976 from the railroad and moved to Jasper County, and lived here the rest of his life. He was faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed tinkering on small engines and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter: Ann Boggan of Newton; four grandchildren: John Edward Boggan, Gregory Scott Boggan, Michael Wayne Boggan and Cindy Boggan Massey; seven great-grandchildren:Lindsay Boggan, Christopher Boggan, Alyssa Boggan, Cameron Boggan, Connor Boggan, Jared Massey and Morgan Massey.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Bettye Byard; one daughter: Addie Mae Byard; one infant son and his parents: William Byard and Addie Viola Smith Byard.
Pallbearers: Greg Boggan, Mike Boggan, John Boggan, Cameron Boggan, Jared Massey, and Christopher Boggan.
