Delia Harthcock

Memorial services for Delia Glynn Harthcock will be held 11 A.M. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Newton United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Napier officiating. Burial will be in MS Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday beginning at 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Harthcock, 81 of Newton, MS, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Newton. She was a native of Tunica County and graduated from Tunica High School. She graduated from North West Junior College in Senatobia, where she was Homecoming Queen, Miss North West Junior College, Maid of Cotton, head cheerleader, and basketball team member. After marrying in 1953, she and her husband, Tommy, moved to Starkville while he attended Misssissippi State. In 1957, they moved to Newton and began a long business career. She was a former Den mother for Cub Scouts, and a Teachers Aide at Newton Public Schools. As long as her health permitted, she was an active Newton Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an active member of Newton United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed buying and collecting antiques for both hobby and business.

Survivors Include husband of 59 years: Thomas B. Harthcock, Sr. of Newton; children: Thomas B. "Tommy" Harthcock, Jr. & his wife: Suzanne of Newton; Patricia "Patti" Simmons of Gulf Shores, AL; Gary Harthcock of Starkville; and Jane Harthcock of Newton; her grandchildren: Tiffany Simmons Hillermann and her husband: Peter of Atlanta, GA; Thomas B. "Tommy" Harthcock, III of Starkville; Jessie Harthcock of Madison; Shelby Harthcock of Newton; Ashley Harthcock of Madison; Jake Harthcock of Madison; beloved pets: Snow & Missy

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ernest and Nelle Coker Alexander; her siblings: Sarah Jane Rowland, Campbell Alexander, and Dan Alexander.

Flowers may be delivered to Newton United Methodist Church, 600 Decatur St., Newton, MS 39345.

Newton County Funeral Home North, 9998 Hwy 15 North, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
