Earl W. Bryan
Earl W. Bryan, 72, of Decatur, Mississippi, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014, at Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian following a sudden illness. He was born February 28, 1941, in Decatur to Earnest and Annie Bryan, the third of seven children.
He graduated from Decatur High School in 1959. After graduating from East Central Junior College, he continued his education at Mississippi State University earning a bachelors degree in accounting in 1965.
He married Gene Hollingsworth August 15, 1960, in Decatur. Together Earl and Gene raised four daughters and shared 53 years of marriage.
Earl had a 31-year career with La-Z-Boy, having served as general manager for both the Neosho, Missouri, and Newton, Mississippi, plants. He was a member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking care of his farm and cows, and playing golf with his buddies. Earl had a unique knack for telling stories and was known to embellish as needed to enhance them. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was a loyal husband, father, and friend.
Earl is survived by his wife, Gene; daughters Retha Price and husband, Brian, of Madison, Mississippi; Renee Cummins and husband, Jim, of Neosho, Missouri; Haley Reardon and husband, Keith, also of Neosho, Missouri; and Hope Davis and husband, Chris, of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and four brothers, Earnest, of Decatur; Everette, of Haverhill, Massachusetts; Jerry, of Perkinston, Mississippi; and Jason of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Ann Curtin and Retha Freidman.
Visitation will take place 6 – 8 pm Wednesday, February 26 at Newton County Funeral Home North in Newton. Services will be held at 10 am Thursday, February 27 at Clarke-Venable Baptist Church in Decatur with Bro. Mark Vincent officiating.
Memorials in honor of Earl may be given to Clarke-Venable Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
