Funeral services for Evelyn Rhodes Puckett will be 11 A.M. , on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Chunky Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Chaney, Rev. Wayne Campbell, and Rev. Curtis Guess officiating. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery.
Newton County Funeral Home South Chapel, 100 Old Hwy. 15 Loop, Newton is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Rhodes Puckett, age 84, of Chunky, passed away on February 26, 2013 at home after a short battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late Tracy V. Puckett of Chunky.
Evelyn was born in Duffee, MS on October 21, 1928 where she grew up. She was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Annie (Johnson) Rhodes. Evelyn was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Rhodes, Florene(Rhodes) Johnson, Theo (Rhodes) Clearman, Opal (Rhodes) Gressett, and her daughter Barbara (Puckett) Niamat.
Evelyn attended Center Ridge School where she enjoyed playing basketball, school plays, and school outings. Evelyn was a member of the Chunky Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and 50+ club. She enjoyed playing games with her family and going to the Spencer Gilbert Chapter of the Eastern Star in Chunky, where she was a member for 50+ years. She was also a member of the Hickory Reading Club.
Evelyn is survived by daughters, Diann Gallaspy of Seymour, TN,; Sandra Gressett of Chunky, MS, Sharon Monroe of Chunky, MS, and Regina Herd of Florence, MS.. Evelyn also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Scott Gressett, Matt Gallaspy, Misti (Gallaspy) Harris, Anthony Gressett, Tra Monroe, Anna Herd, Adam Herd, and Aimee Herd, Great Grandchildren: Leah (Gressett) Evans, Megan Harris, Grant Gallaspy, Gaige Gallaspy, Kourtney Gressett, Cameron Gressett, Gavin Gallaspy, and Rowan Gressett, and a Great-Great Grandson, Eli Evans.
Evelyn also leaves behind several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Grandsons and Great-Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home and on Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
