Frances Perkins Hawkins, 85, died Thursday, May 26, 2011. She had lived in Sumter County since 1954 and was a retired elementary school teacher. A member of Livingston First Baptist Church, she was active in many local organizations and activities.

She is survived by her son, William Riley “Bill” Hawkins, Jr and daughter-in-law, Gina Willis Hawkins of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; granddaughter, Caroline Hawkins; sisters Pat Perkins Shidal of Vale, North Carolina and Jo Perkins Gravatti of Cordova, Tennessee; her brother in law, Jim Gravatti; and ten nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hawkins was the widow of William R. “B.B.” Hawkins, her true, loving and devoted partner of 51 years. She was born in Tate County, Mississippi, daughter of Christine Murphy Perkins and Ernest Perkins. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, father and her sisters Mary and Carolyn.

She took great pride, and took great care, in Quietude, the home she shared with her family; in her church; and in her long time, special and dear friends and her former students, as well as her family. Known as “Franny” to her beloved granddaughter, she was the graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi and earned a masters degree in elementary education from The University of West Alabama.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made the Frances Perkins Hawkins Fund for Elementary Education at the University of West Alabama, Station 6, UWA, Livingston, Alabama 35470, or to the Livingston First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the Livingston First Baptist Church with graveside services to follow at Mrytlewood Cemetery at 11 A.M.
