Funeral services for Jack H. Harris will be held at: 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 13, 2010, Newton County Funeral Home South with Dr. David Rives officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harris, 83, of Newton, MS, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Newton County. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the military in the U.S. Navy and the Army, respectfully. He was an avid worker with his hands, building many things made of wood. He loved gardening and planting vegetables, going to auctions and estate sales. He loved visiting with his family and friends. He was a member and deacon of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Frances E. Harris; his parents: Joe George & Mary Frances Willis Harris; and his brother: Tom Harris
Survivors Include: his daughter: Faye Dean, Little Rock, MS; his sons: James Issac Harris, Newton, MS and Jack Harris, Meridian, MS; his grandchildren: Lindsay Atkins, Ashley Walker, Megan Harris ,Stephen Harris, Hope Harris, Donna Strickland, and Chris Harris; two great-grandchildren; his sisters: Johnnie Bounds, Hickory, MS and Edna Earle Bounds, Newton, MS; his brother: George Harris, Newton, MS; his sister-in-law: Louise Harris, Lawrence, MS
Pallbearers will be: Paul Edwards, Tony Adams, Luke Atkins, Scott Sibley, Benny Sibley, and Jeff Sibley.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the funeral home.
