Funeral services for James Abner Christopher, 87, of Butler will be held Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11 A.M. from the First United Methodist Church of Butler with Rev. Joe McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Butler City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at Bumpers Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M.
Mr. Christopher passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. He served his country as a World War II Veteran, U.S. Army. He was also a retired State Farm Insurance Agent and a retired Circuit Clerk and Register of Choctaw County, State of Alabama.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Ann Boozer Christopher of Butler; son Stephen Clark Christopher (Julie) of Abita Springs, LA; daughter Charlotte Christopher Pope (Edward) of Butler; Cynthia Christopher Guice (Carter, Jr.) of Mandeville, LA; daughter-in-law Melissa Jenkins Christopher of Butler; sister Doris Christopher Jones of Thomasville; grandchildren Dr. Michael Christopher Pope (Lindsay); Dr. Jonathan Edward Pope (Elizabeth “Libby”); Carter Kenneth Derrick Guice III; James Oliver Christopher Guice; Ann Margaret Christopher; and John Benton Christopher; great grandchildren Caroline Allison Pope; William Michael Pope; Charles Edward Pope; and Elizabeth Shields Pope.
He was preceded in death by his son James Benton “Benny” Christopher; parents Oliver Bryan Christopher, Sr. and Jessie Bush Christopher; brothers Oliver Bryan Christopher, Jr.; John Young Christopher, Sr.; Oscar Elmore Christopher; and Henry Howard Christopher, Sr.; sisters Lucille Christopher Land; Mary Lula Christopher Lindsey; Willie Bush Christopher Lancaster; and Jessie Frank Christopher Phillips.
