Mr. Walker was born near Hickory and graduated from Hickory High School, and married his high school sweetheart. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict period. He was a lifetime machinist, working at Vickers, Inc., and Delco Remy, respectively. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He loved his land, his fish, purple martins, honey bees, tractors, and gardening. Where he now resides, may the fishing always be good, the purple martins sing year round, scalding black coffee flows freely, chocolate and sugar cookies, and many loaves of "Mrs. Polly's" pound cakes grow on trees, and peace abounds.
