A memorial service for James L. “Jimbo” Shaw, 73, of Cuba will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Bumpers Funeral Home Chapel in York with Rev. Mike McKee and Rev. Randy Rigdon officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2014 at Bumpers Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Shaw passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at Regency Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. He was retired from Shaw Land Company.
Jimbo liked to tell everyone he was born in Hollywood. He was born in Hollywood, Florida, where his father worked as a landscaper for some of the flashiest hotels in south Florida. When Jimbo was six years old, the family returned to Cuba, Alabama, where, with the exception of some work trips and a few notorious motorcycle adventures, he stayed forever.
He met Kathy on the carousel in Highland Park, where, as he liked to tell it, she insisted that she join him for a ride. They were married in Cuba Baptist Church and they stayed that way forever (53 years, as of last September).
The in-between-years were filled with children and grandchildren and friends from all walks of life. There were guns, horses and Harleys, deer hunting, turkey calling, raising cows and raising Cain. He was husband, daddy, granddaddy, best friend, uur rescuer, our adviser and our storyteller. And we will miss him forever.
Survivors include his wife Katherine B. Shaw of Cuba, AL; son Jeff Shaw (Leslie) of Cuba, AL; daughter Tammy Shaw of Brandon, MS; and Polly S. Carroll (William) of Cuba, AL; sister Linda Anderson of Cuba, AL; seven grandchildren Adam Shaw, Hayden Shaw, Gage Stephens, Justin Stephens, Carter Stephens, Celia Stephens, and William Carroll, III.; special friends Sanders Reed and Leann Staton.
