James Olen Baucum
James Olen Baucum, 66 of Newton, MS, was a beloved husband, daddy, and papaw who passed away at his home Saturday, June 29, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at The First Baptist Church of Newton in Newton, MS with Bro. Brian Rushing & Bro. Randy Cuchens officiating. Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2013 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Newton County Funeral Home South and from 10 AM until 10:30 AM Tuesday at First Baptist Church prior to the service. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 Old Hwy 15 Loop, Newton, MS is in charge of arrangements 601-635-3200. Mr. Baucum was born in Newton County on August 2, 1946 to Calvin and Velma Baucum. He was a graduate of Newton High School, East Central Junior College, The University of Southern Mississippi, and Mississippi State University. Coach Baucum, as everybody knew him, was a devoted teacher, coach, and administrator from 1968-1999. He was a dedicated teacher who deeply loved his family, friends, students, and fellow teachers, and his strong work ethic was witnessed by all who knew him. Coach Baucum believed in teamwork and always doing your best whatever your situation, game, work, etc. called for. After his retirement in 1999, he enjoyed pipelining, gardening, fishing, 2 loving dogs, and golfing as well as spending time with family and watching any and all sports events. He will be deeply missed by all who knew his loving, caring ways, and his priceless sense of humor. His morals and principles will continue to pass from generation to generation. He was also a member of The First Baptist Church of Newton. He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Lela Wagner Baucum, Newton, MS; Daughter: Stacy Baucum Winstead and husband Wade, Little Rock, MS; Sons: Jamie Olen Baucum and wife Brandi, Newton, MS and Ty Baucum, Minneapolis, MN: and Daughter: Teri Harrison and husband Barry, Little Rock, MS; 6 Grandchildren: Emily Brackeen, Kayla and Tate Baucum, and Drew, Jessica, and Ezra Harrison; 1 Brother: Johnny Baucum and wife Eleanor, Decatur, MS; and Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Baucum was preceded in death by his parents: Calvin and Velma Ritchie Baucum; 4 Brothers: Lester, Hilton, Billy Wayne, and Bobby Ray Baucum; and 1 Sister: Olivia (Libby) Parks. Pallbearers are: Butch Newman , Jim Duncan, Jay Reeves, John McCrory ,Roy McCrory, Miles Butler, Allen Harrison, and Granville Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers are Nephews: Lavelle , Wayne, Leslie, and Lance Baucum.
