James Williams "J.W." Thrash
Services for Mr. J.W. Thrash will be held 11 am, Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Clarke Venable Baptist Church with burial in the Decatur City Cemetery. Rev. Billy Williams officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 am- 11 am, Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Clarke Venable Baptist Church.

Mr. Thrash, 86, of Decatur, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Beehive Home of Newton.

Mr. Thrash was a veteran of WWII in the US Navy on board the USS Admiralty Island. He also served as Mayor of Decatur, MS for 12 years and was the owner of Decatur Insurance and Realty. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from East Central Community College and served as President of East Central Planning Commission.

J.W. was the voice of football games at Newton County High School and East Central Community College for 50 years and worked for the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce. He was a member of Clarke Venable Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors:

2 Sons: Jim Thrash and wife Sharon of Collierville, TN

Terry Thrash of Pensacola, FL

2 Granddaughter: Mary Short and Emily Thrash

1 Grandson: Jay Thrash

1 Sister: Marie Davis of Louisville

Mr. Thrash was preceded in death by wife, Jean Thrash.

Pallbearers: Eddie Thorne, Graham Clarke, Doug Morgan, Roy Blackburn, Mark Buntyn and Mike Blount

In lieu of flowers family requests that memorials be made to: Clarke Venable Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 308 Decatur, MS 39327.
